에이트리 갤러리(A-TREE) - 박초월 작가 초대전

"인. 의. 시" 인간의 시간
"첫 인간의 시간에서 지금 한 인간의 시간에 다가서기까지..."
처음 인간이 시간을 인지하기 시작한 순간부터 현재의 시간에 이르기까지 인간이 만든 '문명의 시계'는 한 순간도 멈춤 없이 물질적 풍요를 강요해왔다.
물질적 풍요에 기반한 사고방식의 폐해가 현시대에 어떤 형식으로 표출되고 있는 지는 굳이 열거하지 않아도 알고 있으리라 믿는다.
"어느 것 하나 생명이 아닌 것이 있었던가? 어느 것 하나 귀하지 않은 것이 있었던가?"
문명의 시계가 돌아가기 이 전의 <순수의 원형 Archetype of Pure> 시리즈와 현재 한 인간에게 흐르고 있는 <돌에서 부처에게 From Stone to Buddha> 시리즈. 그 사이 시간에 존재했던 '인간다움'에 대한 물음은 각자의 시간에 걸어두고 볼 일이다.

AYA는 2016년 한 여름, 6월의 마지막 날에 박초월작가님의 초대전이 진행되고 있는 양재천로 123 A-TREE 갤러리를 방문하였습니다.
양재천로 가로수길이 예쁘게 쭉 이어져있는 가운데 위치한 에이트리 갤러리는 그림을 관람하고 자연의 아름다움까지 관람하기에 맞춤인 공간이었습니다.

한국 시각예술인 협동조합이 운영중인 A-Tree gallery 는 현재 이흥렬이사장님이 대표로 운영중이신 문학과, 공연 문화, 포토아카데미, 출판, 교육사업등의 비영리 협동조합 법인 단체로써 다양한 문화 활동을 하는 협회입니다.

개인적으로 지난 두달간 12번의 미술관 및 각 비영리 기관 협회 전문인들과의 강좌가 있었기에 이곳 COVA coop 이 어떻게 만들어지고 운영 되어지고 있는지가 조금더 보이고, 또 그만큼 궁굼한 것들도 있었습니다. 조합임원들을 모두 뵙지는 못하였지만 사진작가이기도 한 현재 이흥렬 이사장님의 열정의 운영시스템이 공간 마다마다 손이 가있고 애정이 담겨 있음은, 다년간 한 공간에서 전시장을 운영해왔던 제 눈에는 쏙쏙 담기지 않을 수 없었습니다. 양재천의 숲과 함께하는 갤러리 창문 밖 광경까지 갤러리에 담고 있는 에이트리 갤러리는 선택받은 시각예술인들의 전시공간이 되겠구나, 라는 생각을 담아보았습니다.

이런 공간이 만들어지기까지 손수 신경을 쓰신 이흥렬 한국 시각 예술인 협동조합 이사장님과 함께 드디어 우리의 AYA 박초월 작가님도 그 곳에서 뵐 수 있었습니다.  2016 BTBM PROJECT를 함께 진행중인 박초월 작가님은 올해 상반기 슬럼프기간이 있었다는 이야기를 이제는 허심탄회하게 나눌 수 있었습니다. 현재 전시를 시점으로 컨디션이 완전히 정상으로 돌아오신 듯 하여 더욱이 뜻깊은 '인간의 시간' 전시가 되실 듯 합니다. 중 하반기, 포토페어 참여 및, 여러 초대전 등으로 좀 더 바쁘실텐데 건강 꼭 챙기셔야겠습니다. 슬럼프기간엔 얼굴이 빵빵하셨는데(^^) 3달만에 뵈니, 얼굴이 반쪽이 되어 아이돌이고 싶은 아이둘 아빠가, 아이돌 얼굴 사이즈가 되어 계셔서(^^) 이제는 완전히 슬럼프 박멸이 되신 걸 실감하였습니다. 작가님 다시 한 번 전시도, 또 기타등등 모두 축하드립니다.

먼저 현관 앞에 있는 작품은 갤러리와 잘 어울리는 푸른 초록빛깔의 < 순수의 원형 > 시리즈 중의 한 작품이었습니다. 순수의 원형 시리즈 작품은 사진 작품인데 실제로 보면 회화같은 터치감이 느껴지는 착각을 일으키는 작품들도 볼 수 있었습니다.

저는 이번 '인간의 시간' 전을 계기로 작가님의 순순의 원형 시리즈에 ' 타임캡슐' 이라는 별명을 붙이게 되었습니다. 작품마다 인간의 시간에서 각자가 지니고 있는 때의 형상과 색상이 작가님의 작품에서 제 이야기를 찾으며 담아 볼수도 있었습니다.

여러분도 그런 인간의 시간, 타임캡슐의 짧은 여행을 경험해 보시길 바랍니다.

'순수의 원형' 시리즈와는 다른 느낌의 작품인 < 돌에서 부처에게 > 시리즈의 작품을 관람하고 있노라면, 조용히 마음 속 깊은 곳에서 근본적인 '물음' 들에 대한 생각의 연속을 하게 되는 경험을 할 수 있습니다. 특히 부처의 뒷모습 작품은 -돌에서 부처에게- 시리즈중 개인적으로 제가 가장 좋아하는 작품으로,108번째의 밤 (16) _번뇌煩惱  "바람에 흔들리는 것이 어찌 그뿐일까?" 라는 작품명 입니다. 때때로 번뇌 작품을 보며 위안과 희망을 갖게 되는 박초월 작가의 작품입니다. 이렇게 작품과 나와의 연결고리를 만들어가며 순간순간의 깨달음이 건네는 눈으로만 읽는 책이 아닌 눈과 마음으로 같이 읽어나가는 책이라는 생각을 해봅니다.

즐거운 작품관람에 이어서 갤러리 내부에서 훤히 보이는 무성한 나무들의 풍경을 보며 < COVA COOP > : 한국시각예술인협동조합에 대한 에이트리갤러리의 활동 이야기를 들을 수 있었습니다.  AYA도 역시 예술인을 지원하는 활동에 관심을 귀기울여 오랜 미팅을 이어나가며 갤러리 안에서의 또 다른 반가운 만남과 함께 갤러리의 과거와 앞으로 펼쳐질 이야기를 나눌수 있었습니다. 앞으로도 이런 시간을 공유하고 도모할 수 있길 바라며 오래 기억에 남길... 우리들의 짧은 여행같았던 ‘인간의 시간’ 타임캡슐에 담아 놓고서야 돌아설 수 있었습니다.

In the midst of summer of 2016, AYA went to visit A-Tree gallery (Yangjaecheon-ro 123), which is

showing an invitation exhibit of artist Park Chowol.

​

Located in the middle of beautiful tree-lined avenues, A-Tree gallery was a perfect spot to enjoy and see not only artworks, but also gorgeous view of nature at the same time.

​

A-Tree gallery is managed by COVACOOP, which is a cooperative association of visual artists in Korea. It is a non-profit co-op corporation of literature, performing art, photo academy, publication, and also educational business. The chairman of the board, Lee Heung-ryeol is currently in charge of the gallery.

​

Personally, I had more questions and wonders since I could see how this COVACOOP was made and how it is run a little bit after taking twelve lectures with many professionals of museums and non-profit co-op corporations for the last two months. Even though I could not meet every board member, I could see and feel how much hard work and affection Mr.Lee, who is also a photographer, has put in to the gallery. Looking around the gallery that has the beautiful Yangjaecheon’s forest as its background, I could tell that this space would become a perfect exhibition spot for chosen visual artists.

Thanks to Mr. Lee, who spent so much effort on making such a wonderful space in and out, I could have an opportunity to meet our AYA artist, Park Chowol also. Park Chowol, who is working together on the 2016 BTBM PROJECT, could speak frankly now about his time in slump beginning of the year. His condition has completely in the peak, making the exhibition ‘Time of Human’ even more meaningful. Hopefully he takes care of himself well since he would get really busy with upcoming photo fair and many invitation exhibits. He looked really well even in the busy time, making me realize that he is really out of his slump state! :D Congratulations again on your exhibition and everything else!

First, the work in front of the entrance that fits perfectly with the gallery’s exterior is one of the <Archetype of Pure> series. Some of the <Archetype of Pure> series looked like paintings even though they were all actual photos.

After seeing the “Time of Human” exhibition, I gave a nickname ‘Time Capsule’ to his <Archetype of Pure> series. The reason behind the nickname is because I could find my stories and also put myself in the work, which each of them has its own shapes and colors in its own ‘Time of Human.’ I hope you also get to experience the short trip in your time capsule to ‘Time of Human.’

You can experience being in a series of thoughts on the fundamental ‘questions’ from deep inside while seeing the works of <From Stone to Buddha> series, which are quite different from the <Archetype of Pure> series. My most favorite work from the <From Stone to Buddha> series is called ‘the 108th night (16)_Agony 煩惱 “Why is that the only one swaying in the one?”, which shows a back of a Buddha. Looking through Park Chowol’s work has power of giving people comfort and hope. It makes me think that it’s like a book that we can read not only by our eyes, but also by our heart, making us realize things moment-to-moment while creating a link between the work and us.

Following next, I had a chance to listen to recent stories of A-Tree gallery’s activities regarding COVACOOP while having the landscape of trees as a background that we could see from inside the gallery. Having an opportunity for delightful encounters and sharing the past and the future plans together during our long meeting, I hope this day will be remembered for a long time. Just like our version of ‘Time of Human’ that we could leave after putting it in the time capsule to go back to the reality!
